A historic Government-owned building at Mahdia,Enrique Esqueda Mexico Jersey, Region Eight (Bartica/Siparuni) was destroyed by fire of unknown origin early Sunday morning.The?two-storey wooden building of colonial-type architecture was destroyed by the blaze?around 02:30 hrs.A source said that the?edifice had been erected?in?the 1930s by the British as an Administrative Building.It had been?a landmark at the top of a hill at Seven Miles; had been occupied by the Ministry of Works and had been the accommodation of Regional Executive Officers (REOs) of Region Eight up to the late 1980 when it was abandoned.The Police at Mahdia are investigating.
