The recently resuscitated Linden Police Station Management Committee (LPSMC) was on Saturday officially launched by Commissioner of Police, Henry Greene, at the Banks DIH Tarmac on Republic Avenue Linden.And a scouts group which was formed by the organisation was also simultaneously launched.Brian McCrae, the Vice Chairman of LPSMC, said he welcomed the move to resuscitate the organisation, after some years of dormancy, and pointed out that the group is not a political one,Zlatan Ibrahimovic Manchester Jersey, but one committed to strengthening and enhancing the work of the local Police.The newly formed Linden Scout Group marches through the streets of the mining town.McCrae posited that the town is hungry for leadership,Kenneth Vermeer Jersey, and thus great priority would be the establishment of youth clubs within the community.Guest speaker, Commissioner of Police, Henry Greene, applauded the work of the LPSMC in putting together the afternoon’s programme, which included a march past by the Scouts. He pointed out that the Scouts’ performance was excellent.He also congratulated the Linmine Constabulary Corps of Drums which accompanied the Scouts, for a band well maintained, and posited that the Scouts involvement could result in a bigger and better band in the future.Greene reminisced fondly of the early years which he spent at Mackenzie as a young police officer,Phil Jones Jersey, and pointed out that almost everything he learnt of policing was learnt at Linden.It was while on a visit to the Mackenzie Police Station recently that Greene threw out a challenge to resuscitate the group to ensure effective monitoring systems for both the police and the public.That was done, and already the organisation has identified a plot of land at Amelia’s Ward, for the establishment of a Police Station in that community, as one of its main projects.With a year end deadline for the completion of this project, infrastructural works are expected to commence by the end of October.The Linden Police Station Management Committee consists of representatives of various organisations and communities in the region, who are committed to assisting the police in helping to maintain law and order.Chairman of the organisation is Lethem Wilson, while Vice Chairman is Brian McRae and Secretary Jeffrey McAlmont. Toolsie Lakeram is the Treasurer.As regards the scouts, Greene said, “Scouting is to forge better relations between the public and Police.” He further remarked, “Keep young people busy, keep them occupied, and they will be more productive”.He also called for the establishment of more youth clubs within the community, pointing out that the Georgetown Scouts was formed from youth clubs, and the same thing can happen in Linden.The Commissioner noted that youths’ involvement in clubs have a positive impact on their lives and as a result lessens the likelihood of their involvement in criminal activities,Jabrill Peppers Youth Jersey, as their energies would be channeled elsewhere.Chairman of Region Ten, Mortimer Mingo, said it was a distinct privilege and honour to witness what he called a signal event- the inauguration of the Station Management Committee.He lauded the Guyana Police Force for the initiative.Himself a former scout, Mingo attested to the invaluable contribution of the movement, which he said prepared him for the life he presently lives.He commended the parents of the scouts present for seizing the opportunity to have their children involved in the movement.He referred to the movement as a catalyst to stem the decay of moral values and discipline in Linden.Expressing optimism that the group would grow to be the largest in Guyana, Mingo committed the RDC’s “unfettered” support to the initiative, which he called a good one.The investiture of the Scouts saw them receiving the Guyana Flash,Christian Pulisic Dortmund Shirts, signifying that they are Guyanese,David Njoku Youth Jersey, the scarf representative of their membership of the Police Scouts Group of Linden, and the Scout badge-officially signifying their membership of the World Scout Body.
