The mother said that the girl’s friends told her that Amrita was walking home from school when she told them that she had to go to the pharmacy to purchase some pills for her mother.However, the mother also found out that the teen was seen crossing the Essequibo River in a boat headed for Parika, on the East Bank of Essequibo.On Thursday, the day after the teen had disappeared, Mohabir said that she received a telephone call from her daughter, stating that she was in Vreed-en-Hoop with a ‘boy’ and that she would return home on Sunday.The mother said that that was all her daughter would tell her before hanging up the phone.However, on Sunday, the teen did not return home.According to the mother, a friend of the teenager would pass on messages to the parents, and this friend informed them that Layne would be leaving Guyana for Suriname some time soon.The worried mother noted that the friend, who refused to reveal her identity, is in constant contact with her daughter.The woman said that this is not the first time that the teen has run away from home.
