Cell phone giant, Digicel Guyana, dominated the Mashramani 2012 prize givingSome of the contestant who were awarded prizes last eveningceremony at the Umana Yana last evening.Digicel copped the winning title with their ‘Reflection’ design, which comprised revelers in red and white. This is the third year in succession that the telephone giant has taken the title.Designer Olympia Small-Sunnaram of Digicel won several trophies in the female category of the individual costume competition; Banks DIH came second, and the Human Services and Social Security Ministry were third place winners.Under the Semi- Costume Competition, (Large category) the Youth Coalition for Transformation was given first place,Antonio Rudiger Jersey, Banks DIH was named second place winner, and Slingshot, the popular calypsonian,Michael Carrick Manchester Jersey, came third.In the Medium Semi Costume competition, The Chinese Association came in first place and the Agriculture Ministry was awarded the second position,Jack Dunn Liverpool Jersey, with the Ministry of Health third.In the float competition (Commercial) Banks DIH was adjudged the winner,Christopher Nkunku Paris Saint-Germain Jersey, and Don Gomes Optical was given second place.The Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports (Non Commercial) came in first, Youth Coalition for Transformation came in second,Pablo Zabaleta Jersey, and the Agriculture Ministry third.The regional competitions, (Medium) saw Region Three taking the title, Region Four came second, and third place was given to Region Five.In the same competition (Small), Region Six was named winner and the Local Government was given second place.Regional Individual Costumes saw the Region Four representatives taking the title ‘King’, Region Three came second and Region Five third.According to Minister of Culture,Kevin Volland Jersey, Youth and Sport, Frank Anthony, more corporate entities should join with Government in Mashramani events as part of giving back to the country while advertising their business.He said the event celebrates different aspects of the Guyanese culture, which helps form a stronger identity.Adding that the Ministry is seeking to improve the quality of the Republic Day event, Anthony said anyone with a skill willing to contribute to the development of the event would be welcomed.
