After a few months of continuous hearings at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, 60-year-old truck driver,Dorian Johnson Womens Jersey, Winston Felix, was yesterday sentenced to three years’ imprisonment on a causing death charge.Winston FelixThe elderly man of Windsor Forest Railway Embankment,Chelsea Jersey, West Coast Demerara,Derek Rivers Patriots Jersey, was found guilty of causing the death of Fatima Jamal on November 28 at Agricola Public Road,Nathan Peterman Bills Jersey, East Bank Demerara. He drove motor lorry GKK 8663 in a manner dangerous to the public.On Tuesday last, both the defence and the prosecution made their respective submissions and the matter was adjourned by Magistrate Ann McLennan to June 19, for decision.Felix who was represented by Attorney-at-law Mr. Rabindra Rooplall, on his first appearance pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted his pre-trial liberty in the sum of $800,000. He has been a driver for more than 14 years and had no prior conviction or pending matter.On the day in question,Deatrich Wise Jr. Jersey, Jamal was going across the street on the pedestrian crossing whilst Felix was driving the said lorry. Felix admitted that he saw Jamal crossing the road, and that his right front bumper collided with her.Defence counsel in his submission stated that there is no evidence of speeding and no tyre impressions. He argued that it is the duty of the Prosecution to provide all evidence beyond reasonable doubt.Counsel also noted that from the evidence before the court,T. J. Watt Womens Jersey, it cannot be found that his client on the day in question drove dangerously or recklessly.The proposal for the Prosecution was made by Police Sergeant Neville Jeffers. The Prosecutor emphasized that the case was proven that Felix drove dangerously that day.The court heard that the defendant paid no careful attention to other road users and applied no safety precaution that day.
