By Latoya GilesThe court yesterday heard closing arguments for the Travis Rudder murder trial as the matter continued before her worship Justice Dawn Gregory, in the High Court. Rudder, who was 17 at the time of the incident, is accused of killing Donnis King on March 23, 2007.Defence counsel representing Rudder, Glenn Hanoman, in his address, reiterated to the jury that in 2007 when Rudder gave a statement to the police he was beaten. According to the lawyer, the evidence given by the female victim’s mother and brother was not independent, since they were both relatives. Hanoman further told the court that the police did a poor investigation.Hanoman said that certain exhibits which were pertinent to the matter at hand were lost and hinted that they have “cooked up” things.Lead Prosecutor in the matter, Konyo Sandiford, admitted that there are “wicked officers, lawyers, bank clerks…and other public servants”. Sandiford, however,Tiago Ilori Liverpool Jersey, said that the defence counsel cannot capitalize on this and have the jury “drink his soup”. She urged the jury to look at the case with a different eye.According to the prosecutor, if Rudder was indeed beaten as what the defence is claiming,Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Dortmund Shirts, the statement would have stated that it was not an “accident”. Sandiford further stated that even if the prosecution was to forget about the “caution statement” given by the accused, he is still not able to “destroy” the evidence given by witnesses.She said that the victim’s mother saw Rudder and her daughter arguing and the brother saw him running away from the scene.The case was closed, and on Tuesday it would be “summed up”. The jury would then deliberate on a verdict.Travis Rudder was located by a party of policemen which included ASP Ravindedat Boodram, at the Alpha Hotel, South Road,Klaas-Jan Huntelaar Netherland Jersey, Georgetown, six months after the shooting.Upon being approached by Boodram, Rudder pulled from his waist a gun. Simultaneously, a loud explosion was heard and the suspect was shot in his right thigh. He was rushed to the Georgetown Hospital by ranks of the police.Wendy Blucher, the mother of victim,Miranda Jersey, had told the court that the shooting of her daughter came after her daughter ended a love relationship because of alleged infidelity, on Rudder’s part.? The woman had sought to explain that the couple was arguing about a ‘blow’ accusation by the girl, who wanted to end the friendship. Seconds later a loud explosion was heard. The girl was shot to the abdomen with a .38 revolver.After she was shot, the girl had shouted, “Mommy, come out quick – Travis shoot me.”? Rudder later confessed that he was playing with the gun when it accidentally went off, shooting Donnis.Rudder,Axel Tuanzebe Jersey, now 21, was subsequently charged with murder.Detective Corporal Royston Blair, another witness who testified yesterday, stated that the accused had made a confession statement admitting that during an argument with Donnis, he was playing with his .38 revolver, which accidentally went off, shooting the girl who later died in hospital.Leading prosecutor Miss Konyo Sandiford,Adrian Ramos Jersey, in association with Miss Prithima Kissoon, and Miss Renita Singh, is conducting the case for the prosecution.
