– voir dire to be held today The trial of Rosignol resident, Justin Bailey, called ‘Jessy’ ,35, for the 18 October 2006 murder of his sweetheart cousin, Hilda Nicholson, called ‘Hilda Nedd ’ has commenced.The matter is being heard in the Berbice High Court before Justice Winston Patterson and a mixed jury. The accused is being represented by Attorney at law Michael Baird.The prosecution which is being conducted by State Prosecutor Dionne McCalmon has so far called some five witnesses.On Friday the defense objected to the testimony of Detective Assistant Superintendent of Police Terrace Paul and a Voir Dire is to be held when the trial recommences on Monday.The indictment as presented by prosecutor Mc Calmon is that on the day in question,Jerseys From China, the deceased was at her cousin Lavern Albert’s home at 93 Jarvis Street Rosignol, when the accused visited about 15:45 hrs and requested some food which was given to him. He further requested one hundred dollars which was also given to him. Albert remained on the steps, while Nedd ventured to the outhouse.A few minutes later she was heard calling out that someone was in the toilet and it looked like Bailey. A little while later Nedd was heard saying, ‘Justin bore me with a knife’.She collapsed and was rushed to the Fort Wellington Hospital where she died.Giving evidence so far were Taxi Driver Sylvester George,Edwin Encarnacion Indians Jersey, who testified of taking the woman to the hospital. However, he could not produce the photographs as he stated that they were spoilt during processing. She stated that she and the deceased are cousins and she knew her for more than 36 years. She operates a Snackette at the residence and the deceased usually visited the house to assist her in preparing things to sell. The place has no electricity.She said that the accused is her fianc? and they were having a relationship for two years prior to the murder.She further stated that at the time of the incident neither of the three had any problems with one another.On the day in question after the afternoon encounter with the accused she did not see him back until the incident when her cousin stated that it was Justin who had stabbed her. She said that the place was dark and she did not get to see the person properly.In answer to a question from the jury, the witness stated that her cousin had said the words ‘is Justin, is Justin, he bore me’Assistant Superintendent Paul had just started to give evidence when attorney at law Baird objected to the tendering of an oral and caution statement which was purportedly given by the accused.
