The Guyana Public Service Union (GPSU) has stated, via release, its displeasure that attempts are being made to “impose the polygraphing system on workers in the public service including those employed in the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) and the Guyana Police Force.”The Union has instructed its members not to take the lie detector test.According to GPSU President,Pablo Barrera Mexico Jersey, Patrick Yarde, the union has already made it clear that the use of the polygraph test, to determine innocence or guilt, of persons who are employed in the public service,Diego Reyes Mexico Jersey, is not acceptable or authorized under the Laws of Guyana.The union has objected to the recent request by the Commissioner-General of the GRA, Khurshid Sattaur that certain officers need to take the polygraph test.In its release,Daley Blind Manchester Jersey, Yarde expressed the union’s concern over the Commissioner of Police, Henry Greene’s statements, which said that the move by the Administration to introduce polygraph testing in the Police Force is welcome, since he thinks it to be a sensible move.Greene had previously said that in almost every Caribbean country polygraph testing is required before being employed, and now that it is being implemented in the force he has no problem with it.The GPSU release made it clear that while Greene said he had no problem with the testing, he did not say what the legal basis, under the Laws of Guyana,John Obi Mikel Jersey, was for the testing of these persons. In particular, the GPSU said,Charles Harris Dolphins Jersey, there were reports that the policemen who had to undergo polygraph testing, had stated that they “had to respond to political questions.”Maintaining its opposition to the polygraph test,Raekwon McMillan Dolphins Jersey, the GPSU has said that public officers, in or out of uniform, should not allow themselves to subjected to the lie detector test. Further, the union has asked any officers who have been made to undergo the test, or have been asked to take the test, to inform the GPSU.
