It was docked at the GNIC yesterday wharf yesterday. Over the last 14 years GNIC has moved imports from 150 units in the early 1990’s to 3000 units, hence providing 60 percent of the market needs.Williams believes that with the addition of this vessel, GNIC will experience an increase in its hold on the local import market.Works and Hydraulics Minister, Robeson Benn, sees the partnership with GNIC and Hoegh CARIBIA as a plus for Guyana as a developing nation and a commendable response to the rapid local developmental needs.Noting the increase in cargo transport locally over the past few years, he said the private initiative points to the fact that Guyana is an ever growing economy that private investors have faith in.He also sees the partnership as a sure development of the transportation delivery system.Williams said that the last five years have been both extremely exciting and demanding as it discharged over 12,000 units with an average of about 2,500 units per year representing an approximate local market share of approximately 60 percent. He said that the mutual objective is to increase current market shares in the vehicle importation business, as well as to penetrate new markets for project and other types of cargo.
