USAID has helped with three programmes including capacity building of commissioners and capacity building of Trade Unions.The Commission will be embarking on another training programme soon, focusing on data collection and research. Non-governmental organisations would also be involved in the training, owing to the critical role they play in bridging the gender gap.During the year the commission also interfaced with stakeholders, and on International Women’s Day a conference was held targeting over 100 organisations. The Chairperson opined that public buildings should be utilised and persons should volunteer their services to this cause.One of the Commissioners, Nicole Cole, was a victim of domestic violence. Cole noted that she utilised the 1996 Domestic Violence Legislation to fight her case but was unsuccessful. Therefore the relevance of that legislation was questioned. Discussions were also held with officials from the Ministry of Education to ascertain what they are doing in relation to the Health and Family Life Education Programme.
