The Inner Wheel Clubs of Georgetown and Georgetown Central are both celebrating 25 years of voluntary service. With today being International Inner Wheel Day both clubs as part of their activities are highlighting Cervical Cancer during this month of Awareness.Both clubs would like to encourage Guyanese women to become fully informed and to get screened for cervical cancer.They are encouraging women to have pap smearsWhat is a Pap Smear Test or an HPV test?The cervix is the mouth of the womb. The womb is where a baby grows. The cervix connects the body of the womb (or uterus) to the vagina (birth canal). Changes in the cervix are often caused by infection with a virus called human papilloma virus (HPV). HPV infections can lead to cervical cancer.When you have a Pap test,Russell Westbrook College Jersey, your doctor can also check you for HPV. Some women may want to know if they have HPV. Some women may not wish to know. A Pap test is used to find abnormal cell changes in the cervix.A pathologist (a doctor who has special training in diagnosing diseases by lab tests such as looking at cells under a microscope) will look at a sample of cells from the cervix under a microscope to see if the cells are normal or if changes can be seen. The Pap test is a very good test for finding cancer cells and cells that might become malignant.
