Refusing to take a breathalyzer test that would be administered by a designated traffic rank without reasonable cause, could lead to fine of as much as $30,000 and failing to pay that could see the delinquent driver placed in jail for as much as six months.This is according to a public notice that has been published in the local newspapers by the Home Affairs Ministry, which warned that the Evidence and Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic (Amendment) Act is in force and caters for drunk driving and the use of a breathalyzer test.The administration is seemingly continuing with the awareness campaign as it relates to the new legislation aimed at curbing the scourge of drinking and driving, ever since Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee, made the order bringing the amendments to the Evidence and Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act into force almost one month ago.
