Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) open a two-day retreat just off Bartica today in hopes of fashioning a system to reenergise the regional trade and integration bloc.President Jagdeo,Cesc Fabregas Chelsea Jersey, who called the retreat, will meet with his CARICOM counterparts at Teperu-Itabu quarries over the next two days.This week,Jonny Evans Jersey, Head of the Presidential Secretariat Dr Roger Luncheon, said that discussions will focus on “refocusing,Jordan Rossiter Jersey, reenergizing integration within the Caribbean Community.”“(There will be) a frank discussion of what actually is the state of integration and then to find those common issues, the common platforms around which pragmatic era of integration could flow,” Luncheon stated.Jagdeo has, in the past, expressed frustration with the slow pace of work of the CARICOM Secretariat and has spoken of a new system to administer the work of the Community.Luncheon hinted that the discussion could focus on developing a system the European Union adopted in setting up a Commission to execute its mandate.The retreat comes just over a month before the CARICOM Heads meet for their 32nd regular meeting in St Kitts and Nevis.It was at last year’s Conference of Heads of Government in Montego Bay, Jamaica that leaders said that they were listening to the Caribbean people who believe all they do is talk.They recognized that the Caribbean people are disillusioned about the future of the integration movement“We must…be mindful of the disillusionment expressed so often by many of our people who feel that CARICOM has not worked, that it has not lived up to their expectations,” Bruce Golding of Jamaica stated.Jagdeo had pointed then to an “implementation deficit” – that there was too much restating of the issues.CARICOM Member States are Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas,Ryan McLaughlin Liverpool Jersey, Barbados, Belize, Dominica Republic,Vicente Matias Vuoso Mexico Jersey, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica,Santi Cazorla Jersey, Montserrat, Saint Lucia, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.Associate members are Anguilla, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands and Turks and Caicos Islands.
